Camping Tips

Leave No Trace - Make every canoe / camping trip a clean one by following the "Leave No Trace" rule and be sure to leave little evidence of your presence.

Follow the Trail - While portaging or camping, make sure to stay on the trails to prevent disturbing wildlife and habitat.

Fire Control - Make sure ALL campfires are kept small and are thoroughly extinguished with water after use. Never leave a fire until you are sure it is cold.

Check In - We encourage you to stop in at the Tourism Office in Flin Flon or Creighton to register your trip before you head out.

What To Bring

Whether you prefer a drive-in campground or back country, always remember to prepare for all weather conditions. Let someone know where you are going and when to expect you back, and be mindful of wild animals. Parks Canada provides a checklist of items to consider packing prior to your camping trip.

Road Trips

If you are driving here, make sure to be prepared for the journey. Here are a few things to consider when preparing for a road trip up north:

  • Change your oil and oil filter prior to leaving

  • Check your spare tire and your air pressure levels

  • Emergency kit is a good idea in the event your vehicle breaks down. There can often be extended wait time for roadside assistance when travelling up north. Some items to include extra warm clothing, blankets, a lighter or matches, a candle, a small shovel, flashlight, toilet paper and a book.

What To Bring

  • Bring snacks, and lots of them!

  • Bring a garbage bag for your empty wrappers

  • Pre-download any podcasts or music you want to listen to as you may lose service along the way

  • Make sure to bring any necessary cables such as your phone charger, auxiliary cable, USB cables, etc.

  • Always let a friend or family member know when you left and when you expect to arrive so they can ensure you get there safely

Licenses

Make sure to bring your fishing license for whichever side of the border you are on. You can purchase them online:

Saskatchewan Fishing License
Manitoba Hunting and Fishing License
