FLIN FLON 27 is a year-long celebration of the bedrock that would eventually support the City of Flin Flon: the founding of Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company later to become Hudbay Minerals, of the hockey team that would eventually become the Flin Flon Bombers and of the First Nations and Métis people who lived on the land long before the first prospectors arrived in the region.
Working with regional partners, there will be celebrations of our community histories throughout the year, including Bomber sporting events, exhibitions, our home-grown historical musical, Bombertown, and a Hudbay event. The largest celebration will be the Flin Flon 27 Party, taking place during the Trout Festival from June 30 to July 4. We invite guests from across Canada and around the world to come and celebrate our community.
The celebration is being organized by a large committee with representatives from the City of Flin Flon, Hudbay, Bombers, our neighbouring municipalities, as well as all major community stakeholders and groups, including Flin Flon’s broader sporting and artistic communities. The preliminary planning is well underway and now it is time for this regional committee to start growing.
Flin Flon 27 is looking for widespread community participation to make this a truly once-in-a-century celebration. Individuals and community groups interested in hosting events and celebrations during 2027 are invited to reach out to committee representatives to discuss how they can contribute to this important centennial event.

The Story Behind the Name
The Flin Flon Archives Board recognizes 1927 as the beginning of the community of Flin Flon. In 1927, Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting was incorporated, the Flin Flon Hockey team was created under the management of Tom Creighton and the ’27 Club’ emerged as a lasting memory of our community’s culture. Together, these milestones mark 1927 as the year Flin Flon truly began.
